Modern Flames Orion Multi – 3-Sided Virtual Electric Fireplace (52" to 120")
Ranked among the most realistic electric fireplaces available, the Orion Multi is a versatile 3-sided unit available in widths from 52 to 120 inches. Flames appear on an LCD panel behind glass across the front and both ends. Version 2 elevates the experience with glowing logs molded from actual split wood, realistic crackling fire sounds, and a built-in Bluetooth speaker that streams music from your phone. It installs as a full 3-sided bay, a corner unit, a single-sided fireplace, or as a wall-mounted piece with the optional Floating Mantel Set. The mantel version plugs into a standard outlet—no electrician or framing required. Version 2 is also rated for covered outdoor patios.
LCD Flames Paired with Glowing Molded Logs
Orion V2 delivers 24 flame combinations (four styles, six colors each). Three of the styles are Modern Flames’ signature multi-dimensional looks, while the fourth can be updated with new themes through the Modern Flames+ app, so the fireplace continues to gain fresh options after installation. An adaptive brightness sensor automatically dims the display in low light and brightens it during the day.
In front of the screen sits a glowing log set molded from real split wood, an ember bed, and a downlight offering ten colors plus a fade mode. The logs and ember bed can remain steady, gently breathe, or pulse in sync with the fire sounds or your own music.
Flexible Open-Side Configurations or Wall-Mount Installation
Removable side plates cover the end glass. Remove both for a true 3-sided bay, one for a corner installation, or leave both in place for a single-sided built-in. Fully recessed installations require a framed opening at least 9 inches deep; partial recess needs only 2-5/8 inches.
The 52-, 60-, and 76-inch sizes work with the Floating Mantel Set, which encloses the unit and includes a power cord for a standard 120V outlet. Without the mantel, the fireplace ships without a cord and must be hardwired (or fitted with a cord by an electrician using 12- or 14-gauge wire). The 240V, 10,000 BTU configuration always requires hardwiring to a dedicated 2-pole circuit.
Dual Heat Output: 5,000 BTU or 10,000 BTU
The fan-forced PTC ceramic heater produces 5,000 BTU (1,465 watts) on a dedicated 120V circuit. Wired to 240V on a 2-pole breaker, a second element engages for 2,930 watts and 10,000 BTU—enough supplemental heat for 400 to 800 square feet according to Modern Flames. On V2 the thermostat ranges from 68°F to 88°F. A lockout switch behind a small panel disables the heater entirely when only the flame effect is desired.
V2 Upgrades: Outdoor Rating, Lit Logs & Bluetooth Audio
V1 and V2 share the same chassis and five width options. V2 improves the visuals and audio with a sharper LCD, adaptive brightness, 24 expandable flame styles, the glowing log set with active ember bed, three fire soundscapes (Classic, Starry Night, Stormy Night), and Bluetooth streaming. Only V2 is approved for outdoor use; V1 is indoor-only.
Ideal for Spaces Viewed from Multiple Angles
The Orion Multi is designed for rooms where the fireplace is seen from more than one direction—peninsula walls between kitchen and living areas, great-room corners, or the end of a covered outdoor space. Its multi-dimensional flames are engineered to look natural from any viewing angle.
Important Installation Notes
Run the dedicated circuit before closing the wall. The junction box is located at the top right of the opening. Modern Flames recommends a dedicated 15-amp circuit (20-amp preferred) for 120V and a dedicated 2-pole 20-amp circuit for 240V. Never use an extension cord or power strip.
Outdoor approval applies only to built-in installations. The patio cover must overhang by at least half the height measured from the bottom of the fireplace, and the open side distances follow the same 50% rule. The base must sit at least 2 inches above the floor, and the unit should be protected from direct sun and water. Keep all combustible materials at least 3 feet from the front. Larger 100- and 120-inch models typically require two or more people to handle the front glass during installation.
